Somalie: Des conseillers militaires américains à Mogadiscio

marine usaL’armée américaine, qui s’est retirée de Somalie il y a 20 ans, y a formé récemment une petite unité pour conseiller les forces africaines et somaliennes qui combattent les islamistes d’Al Chabaab, a fait savoir vendredi l’état-major à Washington.

Cette Cellule de coordination de Mogadiscio, qui compte moins de cinq hommes et dont le déploiement a débuté en octobre, est pleinement opérationnelle depuis la fin décembre, a précisé le colonel Tom Davis, porte-parole des forces américaines en Afrique.

« Les Etats-Unis ont créé une cellule de coordination militaire en Somalie pour apporter un soutien en matière de programmation et de conseil à la Mission de l’Union africaine en Somalie (Amisom) et aux forces de sécurité somaliennes afin d’accroître leurs capacités et de promouvoir la paix et la sécurité en Somalie et dans la région », dit-il dans un communiqué.

L’armée américaine s’est retirée de Somalie en 1994, quelques mois après la bataille de Mogadiscio. Deux hélicoptères Black Hawk avaient alors été abattus, ce qui avait fait 18 morts dans les rangs de l’US Army.
